Wholesale nurseries and growers sell to landscapers and sometimes to the public at volume prices; tree nurseries sell balled-and-burlapped and container trees and can deliver and plant large specimens. Seattle is in Washington, in the Pacific Northwest, where winters are mild and wet, summers are dry and pleasant, and outdoor recreation drives a lot of local business; hours change little through the year. Getting around Seattle is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Washington's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

βββββ 10/10 Truly something special! Heartwoods Bonsai is an absolute gem. From the moment you explore the site or step into their world, you can feel the passion, intention, and deep respect for both the art of bonsai and the natural world behind everything they do. Itβs not just a business. Itβs a community and a learning experience. Maria is incredible. Her dedication is obvious in every detail, from the way the classes are structured to how thoughtfully she shares her knowledge. You can tell she genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed and build a real connection with their trees. Her background as a horticulturalist and educator really shines through. Everything is explained in a way thatβs both accessible and deeply informative. The classes themselves are outstanding, small, hands on, and incredibly well-paced. Youβre not just watching; youβre learning, doing, and understanding why things are done a certain way, especially when it comes to timing, technique, and tree physiology. Itβs clear a lot of thought and care goes into creating a meaningful experience for every student. And the artistryβ¦ just wow. The work coming out of Heartwoods is genuinely bea

I personally have not been to the shop in person. I do know Maria though, the owner, and sheβs an amazing person and she takes so much care and time and effort into these bonsai. Itβs amazing. She will guide you through every step of the process of caring for your plant and making sure it flourishes. Sheβs extremely helpful and extremely detail oriented and you wonβt be alone in your new endeavor in parent parenting!

I purchased a Juniper Bonsai, a toolkit and a 1:1 course from Heartwoods as a Christmas gift for my Dad. My experience has been nothing short of superb. I called Maria along with every other Bonsai expert I could find in North Seattle, but the reason I chose Heartwoods, over the alternatives, is because Maria took a consultative approach, and has a personal interest in building a relationship, rather than just making a transaction. From our first conversation, Maria asked questions so that she was able to make a personalized recommendation that fit best what was right for me (and my Dad). Maria has also provided on-going support and guidance after my purchase. The level of attention and passion Iβve received from Maria is so hard to find these days! For anyone reading this recommendation to help them make a decision about the best place to go for Bonsai, Iβll say firsthand that you need look no further!

I recently began my journey into the world of bonsai. A friend gave me some cuttings, and today I stepped into this nursery to begin my joinery. The nursery is a really magical place, and you sense that when you walk in. I was greeted by Maria and shown around, by her and Michael. She shared lots of conversation about this passion, and I came home with some basic items to get me started. I love that the classes are offered literally weekly! This is the kind of small business that I am SO grateful to support!

Maria is an open book and you can tell that she is passionate. Almost every sentence taught me something new. I have kept plants for most of my life and work at a nursery, so learning that much in so little time was insane. She has the best intentions and just wants everyone to be happy, plants and people. This is also the first nursery where I was encouraged to text. I'm used to nurseries telling me to come in so a shop telling me I can stay at home and still get help was so nice. Delightful experience all around, I love sales people that are honest with you.
